Denzil the Dreamer
Innovation of Anthony Browne's "Willy the Dreamer"
Denzil dreams.
Sometimes Denzil dreams that he’s a wrestler, or a boxer, a hip-hop dancer or a gymnast… Denzil dreams.
Sometimes Denzil dreams that he’s a teacher, or a prime minister, a famous actor or an astronaut… Denzil dreams.
Sometimes Denzil dreams that he can’t write but he can read.
He’s an old man, or a baby… Denzil dreams.
Sometimes Denzil dreams that he’s a refugee, or a prince.
He’s in a strange castle, or on another planet… Denzil dreams.
Sometimes Denzil dreams of ghosts, or angels.
He dreams of the present…and sometimes, the unknown.
Denzil dreams.

Thank You Card

Dear Whaea Sally,
Room 12 would like to say THANK YOU for working with us this year.
We really enjoyed making boil-up in the hall kitchen in Term 2. We also learned how to weave harekeke to make putiputi for our papier mache vase.
Thank you for your time and help and best wishes for the holidays.
Lots of love from Room 12 2006
My Favourite Place to Go
By Shanaia King Room 12 2006
Do you have a favorite place to go- a place with family, good weather and fun things to do? I’m glad I do.
Rotorua is my favorite place for many reasons. I like to go to Rotorua because I can play and laugh with my cousins. Most of my family lives down there.
The weather is really great and I don’t sweat a lot. There are long sunny days spent on the beach. I like to relax on the grass at the lake and watch the birds feeding.
You should visit Rotorua some day.

Letter to my cousin by Wendy

Dear cousin Tazmyn,
How are you? I am great because I visited the Auckland zoo with my class on Tuesday 28th November.
We went by bus with Room 19 and parent helpers. I was so glad that mummy could come with us. Mum’s team and Rangi’s team explored the zoo together. First we went to pride land and there we saw a giraffe. The giraffe had an amazing long head. It was a terrific animal.
Then we saw the flamingoes. The flamingoes were the skinniest out of all of the animals in the zoo. They were striking birds.
We noticed that the beautiful rhino was looking at us. It was grey and enormous.
We spied an Indian hut that Awhina and Latisha tried to push me into but I ran away.
We gazed at the aquarium. The aquarium was fun because my mum saw a fish just like nemo.
I enjoyed the discussion in the Rakau room. My best experience was touching the blue-tongued skink. It had a hard a scaly covering and was an amazing creature.
Looking forward to seeing you on Christmas Day.
Your favourite cousin

Frank Kendon Poem
By Asha Chandra Room 12 2006
…And disgusting graffiti sprayed on an electric box,
And a lonely letterbox waiting for its meal,
And an empty milk bottle in a dirty broken drain,
And a handsome harakeke hiding behind a fence,
And a black dog playing in the field,
And tall leafy trees blowing in the wind,
And the wild wind whistling as it goes,
And a lonely goal-post enjoying the sun,
And a basket ball hoop waiting for a ball,
And a beautiful little bird flying freely in the sky,
And a handsome harakeke hiding behind a fence,
And an empty milk bottle in a dirty broken drain,
And a lonely letter box waiting for its meal,
And disgusting graffiti sprayed on an electric box…

Mansell Hip Hop Girls at School Assembly

On Monday, 13th November 2006, the Hip Hop group of Mansell Intermediate School came to our school assembly to perform their dance. Some of the girls were ex-Kelvin Road School students. They were beautifully dressed in matching outfits and danced to some remixes. They captured the attention of the audience with their energetic and cool moves.
Room 12 really enjoyed their performance. Paki-Paki - Kia Ora girls!

It's Cool To Keep Safe

On Wednesday 8th November 2006 David, Hayley and Yvonne, from KidSafe came to Kelvin Road School to teach us how to keep safe. David told us that each one of us is special and that we are a treasure. He taught us how to handle bullies on the school bus. He talked about the
"Uh-Oh" feeling. That's when someone makes us feel uncomfortable. We learnt about bad touches and what to do. You say "NO!" and RUN, and YELL, then TELL. We learnt a rap that goes like this: "It's cool to keep safe, 'cause my body is mine, I'll protect each part and I'll be just fine."
Then we did a song called My Body has many parts.
At the end Yvonne gave each child a pack of cards and stickers that will help us to remember what to do to keep safe.
