Staff vs Students Soccer

On Friday 29th August, the Year 6 boys played a soccer match against Kelvin Road School Staff.
The goal-keepers were Mr. Naidoo and Chris. Mua scored the only goal for the students' team. On the taechers team Mr. Oakey scored the most goals and other goals were scored by Mr. Robertson and Matua Harris. The ground was wet and slippery and the teachers and students were slipping and sliding all over the field. There were many spectators watching the match and even the junior children came to watch.
It was an exciting game and the teachers won 7 - 1.
Teachers watch out next year when Eru and Jospeh will be playing for the students team.

Math is Fun

Do you like maths? I like maths because it helps you at the supermarket so you know how much it will cost when you shop. You will know how much your groceries cost and if you don’t have enough you can put something back. Math is good for you because it can make you brainy and you can count to 1000 or even more. Math helps kids get better scores when they do their basic facts test. Math is good because you can get better at your plusses. Math helps you with your counting, take-aways, timetables, plusses and your divide-bys. Maths is cool because you can get better at your timetables and division. Math helps little kids by counting up to ten or more. Math can help little kids with plusses like 1+1, 2+2 and 3+3. Math is fun because you can play math board games and other online math games. You can learn how to count in 6, 7, 8 and 9s. Math helps mums and dads count up all their money they earned from their jobs. Math is important for big people too because they need to know how much to spend on their children, food, clothing and the house. I like math because it challenges my brains. When I play the tables-game I always try to beat my score and the time limit. I like learning about big numbers in the thousands. If I am good at math nobody will be able to cheat me. If you bake a cake, you use your maths to measure the ingredients. You learn about time shapes and patterns too. Numbers are all around us. I love math because it is fun.

Values are the Most Important thing in Life

Do you know what values are? Values are very important because it teaches you how to behave. You can be very responsible if you have values. If you have values you will have a good character. You will think about your words and actions and make choices that are right for you and others. Honesty means being truthful and not telling lies. Responsibility means looking after your belongings and looking after yourself. It is very good to have values because you will make yourself and others happy. To show respect you should always be good to other people and you need to treat them the way you would want to be treated. If you learn your values you will be caring, kind and helpful, that is called compassion. Values can help kids stop being bad. If you know some values then you should always practice them wherever you go. Self –Discipline means doing your chores before playing and thinking whether the choices you are making is right for you and others. If you have values you will be a good role model when you are a child and also when you grow up. Perseverance means not giving up and means sticking with something until it is finished. Everyone should have good citizenship and should always have fairness at school. You should learn all of the values because it will make you a better person.
If everyone had values the world would be a better place. There would be no wars, no killing, no stealing and no crime. Out of all the values there is nothing greater than love. Values are the most important thing in life.

My Bike

My bike is cool and it’s new. It’s a mountain bike and it is blue. Now it looks old to me. I won my bike at Massey Park. My dad and I freaked out when I got the bike from the mayor. We didn’t know how he got my name. He just called my name out. We had to stay behind and go to the creek because the mayor rode it down there. I was shy when I won. It was a girl who won the other bike. There were fireworks. The part I liked was when they put the fireworks on the bike’s wheels. The sparks were going around the wheels. He was riding it on the wall and it looked cool. It was not touching the black thing on the wheel where you pump it up. It went around the wheel. I rode my bike home while my dad drove his car. He followed me all the way back home to show my family my new bike. A few days later we went kayaking and I took my bike too. It was scary when I rode down the hill. I ride my bike when I get back home from school. On my bike is a drink bottle holder. I think I am going to get a drink bottle from the Warehouse. You can take the wheels off without any screwdriver. It’s neat. It’s like I bought it from the shop. If I go for a ride I would go on my blue bike. But if we go on the bmx track I would go on my bmx bike for racing people. I am happy I won that bike at the racing. It felt great when I won it.

My favourite place for a Holiday

Have you had the best holiday ever? My favourite place for a holiday is when I go to my dad who lives in Taupo. It is a long to drive to Taupo from Auckland. Taupo is a big town near Rotorua. It is cool to play in the snow there. I love to go skiing with my dad. I like the snow because it feels lovely on my hands. It is freezing cold in the snow. I play games with my brother at my dad’s house. I go to the mountains with my family. You have to be careful because you can fall off the mountain. Sometimes we go out camping and fishing. We make a fire to cook the fish over it. At night we watch the stars twinkling in the sky. We talk about scary things until I fall asleep. In the morning we climb the trees and jump into the river. We take a swim in the river. Then we go kayaking at the beach. Sometimes we fall into the water. I can’t wait for the next school holiday. I always have the best holidays at Taupo.

A Tangi

Have you ever been to a tangi? How did you feel when someone close to
you passed away? One Saturday morning we heard that my Papa past away. He died of cancer after fighting it for 20 years. He was about 80 years when he past away. My mum was crying and looked sad. I was sad too because Papa always had a snack for me when I went over for a visit. We had a tangi to say goodbye to my Papa. When we went to his tangi mum was crying a lot with all of the other visitors. They were saying nice things about papa. My Uncle performed my Papa’s favourite haka and it was so funny that everyone laughed and felt happy. Papa always made us smile. We all shared memories about Papa and said we will never forget him. He was the best Papa to my brother, sister and I. We buried my Papa in my grandma’s grave and we placed their crosses together to hug each other. Some of us started to cry again. My mum told Papa not let Nana boss him around now that they are back together. We started to laugh again. At the tangi we felt a little sad and a little happy too. At last Papa and Nana were together. We all celebrated his freedom. I still miss my Papa a lot but I know that he is happy in heaven. He is watching over me and my whanau. Rest in peace Papa.

I want to be a Policeman

Have you ever wanted to be a policeman? I want to be a policeman because I will stop people from tagging and speeding. I will help people when they need directions. There are different kinds of police like F.B.I. and C.S.I. and more. A cop has a very cool uniform. Policemen have virtues like good citizenship, fairness and responsibility. The police do a very important job because they make the community a safer place. Being a policeman is very hard work. You have to go through training first so you have to be fit and healthy. Most policeman stay at work for a very long time. A policeman has lots of meetings. They have to make a plan about how to stop gang fights. A policeman catches the criminals and people who are breaking the law. They arrest drug dealers so that children don’t pick up this bad habit. They can drive a very fast police car or motor-bike. A policeman has to handle a slide around a very sharp corner when he is chasing a criminal. If you go too fast and a policeman sees you speeding, you will have to pull over on the side of the road. He will ask for your driver’s licence then he will give you a speeding ticket. If you have hydraulics in your car, you will get a fine. Although a policeman carries a gun he doesn’t just shoot the criminal. The gun is for protection. The policemen have a new gun which is called a tazer. It does not kill you but it gives you an electric shock. A policeman uses handcuffs so that the criminal does not attack him or run away. So if you go over the speed limit, slow down. If you do bad things like beat up a woman or kill someone, the police will find you guilty and you will go to prison. Once you’ve been in jail or committed a crime, the police will have track of all your records. A police record has all your incidents that will stay with you for the rest of your life. So if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime!

Friends

Do you have friends? My best friend’s name is Shalom. She lives down my street. She always picks me up to play with her. We play hand-games or elastics. I tell her to get her skipping rope from her house but she doesn’t listen to me. When she goes home I go home and play elastics using the chairs. Sometimes when she doesn’t want to play I go and pick my cousin Edna up to play outside with me. When it is lunchtime we have our lunch. Then we clean up and I get a bit tired so I hop into my bed and put my blanket over me and go to sleep. One day I went out to play with my friend and my mum told me to come back home before dark. I didn’t listen and I went out on our street to play. I got lost and I didn’t know the way back to my house. Lucky my mum found me with my cousins in another street. I have fun playing with my friends. If you have good friends you will never be lonely. Remember, if you want to have friends, you have to be friendly.

Good things happen to Good People

Good things happen to good people because they do the right thing. They show respect to others. They have integrity which means making choices that help you be the best person you can be. I wake up early in the morning because I have to make my brothers breakfast and change them. I enjoy doing good things because when I grow up, I will be a good person. I want to treat others with respect so they can treat me well. I show respect for others even when they are different from me. I know what it feels like when you’re being teased. It is not nice to tease others because it is not being respectful. I take responsibility for my own actions and I do my own work. I want to learn more about values because I want good things to happen to me. I don’t like getting yellow or red warnings because that is bad. To be a good person you have to practice values like love, honesty and compassion. If you are good then good things will happen to you, like you will not get into trouble. I want to be a good person because I like to be happy. Don’t you?

Why my Mum is the Best in the World

Do you have someone who cares about you?
Well I do and that’s my mum. My mum is pretty. My mum will take me to the mall and she will buy me some shoes, clothes and some Wendy’s. My mum will let me go with my friend to Hamilton or to Sky City. My mum will take me shopping and she will let me go to the shop. My mum always helps with my homework. Sometimes I read a book because I don’t get home until four pm and mum gets home at five pm. She never has to tell me to do my jobs. I just do it when I get home. My mum is the best because she will take me where I want to go. My mum works at a place that makes cookies. Mum buys some cookies and we eat them. My mum likes my friends and she lets them come over. If you had a mum like that mine you would be happy because she will play with you. She is fun too. When I got my hair cut my mum got the same as me and my mum looked young. My mum is really wonderful because she is fun, kind and she is funny too. My mum is good at the Speed game and that is my favorite game too. My mum is the best because she helps me and makes me stuff. She is the best mum in the world.

Why I like soccer

Do you like soccer? I love soccer.
I play soccer in school every day.
I play with my friends on the soccer field. We got a ball in our classroom which we use at morning tea. It is my job to get the cones. At lunch time we have to get a soccer ball from the shed. We play with the children from other classes. I like to play defence and not let the other team get the ball. I dribble the ball and try to score a goal. At school we have been having a soccer world cup tournament. Room 8 is called Brazil. Our team made it to the semi-finals. I love soccer because it keeps me fit.

Birthday Party

Have you ever been to a birthday party? In the holidays I went up North for my uncle’s birthday. He went up to Kaikowe to get his key. My dad was jealous about the key. I was upset because my sister had $40 and I only had $30. I grabbed some drinks from our cupboard for the party. When the bbq was cooked my uncle gave a speech. It started to rain so we played in the rain. We slipped in the mud so we got a hiding from my uncle because we got dirty. He was angry because we spoiled his party. The adults were drinking and dancing. They smashed bottles on the road because they were drunk. There was yummy food at the party. My papa and uncles cooked the kai. They made chicken, stuffing, salads, pizza, fish and chips. The children had ice-cream and a lolly-scramble. I grabbed the lolly-pops. Everyone was singing Maori songs. Everybody was happy and having fun. It was the best birthday party I have ever been to.

My favourite TV show

My favourite TV show is Shortland Street. On Shortland Street there are lots of people who work hard to be the C.E.O. On Shortland Street there is a C.E.O named Cullen McKay. Some of the people die when they are in Surgery. Some people are sad for their family who die. If you have a heart attack you should always go to the hospital. If you don’t go to the hospital you might die. When I watch Shortland Street I learn how to be a doctor when I grow up. When my family watch it they always say that I should be a doctor when I grow up. I watch Shortland Street at 7.00pm and it finishes at 8.00pm on Mondays during wintertime. Some of my favourite actors are Sophie, Hunter, Justine, T.K. and Kip. There are lots of people who work at Shortland Street. The people I don’t like are the Whitetails because they are mean to people. The Whitetails are a gang. One day they kidnapped a man. One night some people were throwing a party and a White tail came in and took their money. I only like the good people in Shortland Street. I was not happy because he was mean. My most favourite person on Shortland Street is T.K. because he looks gorgeous. He is kind and caring. His partner is Sarah but I don’t like her because she always lies to him.
If you don’t watch Shortland street you should watch it sometime. It is the coolest programme on TV 2.

What if the world was in darkness

What if the world was in darkness? We will not be able to see in the dark. We will have no T.V. to watch. It will be dark in our house and we would not find our clothes to wear. If we tried to find something we might put our hand in the wrong thing. We will be wearing hideous clothes and shoes. If the world was in darkness we will be tripping up and falling over stuff. If we go to school, we might grab someone else’s book from their basket. When we are doing work we will be writing on the work we did yesterday. But I don’t think our parents will send us to school because it will like be night time. If the world was in darkness we might bump our head while walking. We will also bump into people. You would not be able to drive your cars at night because you might crash. Also you cannot fly a plane at night. We will have no electricity. We would have to make a fire to cook our food. The cool thing is we get to have a bbq everyday. We would be lighting candles during the day because the sun would not come out. We will need lots and lots of candles. How will we know when to sleep and when to wake up? We will not know the difference between daytime and night time. Children will not be able to go out to play because it will be dark and they will be scared. If there was no sunshine the world would be dark and cold. I would not like it if the world was in darkness, would you?

Reading is Cool

Do you like reading? I love it. Reading is fun. It will improve your spelling. It helps you spell words that you didn’t know how to spell. You will be clever if you read everyday. Reading can teach you lots about the world. You will be able to read chapter books or a book you haven’t seen before. If you can’t read something ask someone for help. What do you do when you come to a new big word? I sound it out. If you don’t know how to sound it out ask the teacher for help. In class we are learning to use other strategies to read difficult words. You will get good at reading if you read everyday. If you’re not good at reading, keep trying until you get it right. That is showing perseverance because you’re not giving up. My favourite books are the BMX books. I got my BMX book from Duffy Books. I like it because it is fun to read. It teaches you how to ride a BMX bike. It tells you what to wear when riding your bike. Whenever I have nothing to do, I read my books over and over again. Sometimes when I am stuck with a hard word, I look at the pictures for clues. Isn’t that a clever strategy but not all books have pictures do they? Reading is really cool. Remember, the more you read, the more you know, the more you know, the more you grow.

Computers are the best Technology

Today’s technology is an amazing thing. A computer is like a person that knows everything. The best technology is in a computer because you can learn things that you never knew about. Computers are used for many reasons like studying and it is also a dictionary. Did you know the computer is a calculator too? The really amazing thing about it is that you can learn stuff that your mum and dad do not know about and your teacher too. The computer is like a teacher but you don’t have to wait for the next day. You can keep in touch by emailing people. I have fun emailing my teacher and sometimes she sends me links of things I can learn on the web. You can educate yourself at home. You can improve your maths, spelling, writing and reading. Many people use the computer to find information on the internet. Computers are used all around the world. People like to use computers for checking out blogs and you tube videos. The computer has all the information that you would ever need. A lot of people around the world love to study by using a computer. Our class loves to go on sites that they can learn from like mrsramanscoolkids blog. You can use the delicious bookmarks and learn about things like plants, living and non-living things, play maths games, do online reading and lots more. You can even book your fares on the internet.
People called forensic scientists use the computer for tracking down criminals, using DNA samples like in CSI. Can you imagine a world without computers? You will have to rely on adults and books for all your information. Computers are an exciting way of learning good things and the internet is an amazing technology, just use it safely.

Duffy Role Model Speech

Good morning, I am Talia Rout, currently head girl at Papakura High school. I am here today to talk to you about the importance of reading and how it got me to where I am in life.
‘IT’S COOL TO READ. IT’S COOL TO ACHIEVE!!’
When I was younger I attended Cosgrove Primary, a school just down the road. Kelvin Road was a very familiar school to me as we always played sports in the interschool competitions. I was sitting down there just like all of you are, listening to guest speakers, never thinking that one day I will be the one up here encouraging others like you to read.Firstly let’s start with where reading has got me and where it may get you to in life. Through my childhood I was taught to read at an early age with lots of books surrounding me as both my parents were teachers. When I was in the junior school, every day we sat down and did our reading in our reading groups, I’m sure just like you guys do. Through my primary schooling this stayed the same and I continued to read frequently. I not only read in class and the homework that I was given but in the holidays I would sometimes enjoy reading a book to help me relax. I can remember a book that I really enjoyed and read it through about 2 or 3 times. The book was called ‘My Guardian Angel.’
In saying this I went through a stage in my childhood that I stopped doing the extra reading. At this stage I felt that reading was not important in my life and my schooling. It was very soon after that I had a talk with my parents, who sat me down and explained how important reading is in everyone’s life and made me understand the importance of reading which made me quickly start up again.Reading can get people a long way and I believe reading is one reason I have achieved the things I have. I am very sporty person who loves exercising and having fun playing sport. When I was year six I won the top sports award that is presented at year the six dinner that they do every year at Cosgrove. I continued my sport through my intermediate where I went to Mansell (which some of you may of heard of) where I was deputy head girl and now in my high school years. During this time my main sports was gymnastics and sports aerobics.I did gym and aerobics for a total of 16 years and it was very important that I could read. When I was competing I had to read my routines that my coach had given me. If I hadn’t been taught how to read or if I hadn’t read when I was younger I would have struggled in sport, especially gymnastics. A lot of reading is involved in sports reading and understanding cues, rules and sporting manuals. Things you won’t be able to understand if you don’t have that reading ability.Another place that I have used my reading ability in quite a bit is my drama and acting.
Up until last year I was a professional actor performing in musicals on stage. Musicals are a little different to normal shows as it is not only acting but a lot of singing and dancing as well. Reading was very important as I needed to read the lines of the song and read and understand the lines and dialogue I had to say on stage. This was where the important reading techniques I learnt when I was younger became very useful and one day I am sure you will put your skills in just like me.
Put your hands up if fiction books are your favorite?? Okay now put your hands up if non fiction books are your favorite?? Put up your hand if you just like books all together? Yeah cool, well for me I really enjoy reading a good fiction book. When I was little these were the ones I enjoyed most and the ones I still read now. But for my different activities and roles I took on I need to read lots of different things and some things that I was not really use to reading. At start some of this was quite hard but I just kept on trying and I soon became easier and that what you guys need to do. In life through your schooling and in other situations you may find things that are very hard. When you come to an obstacle it is important that you do not turn away from it and push it to the side, as this will not achieve anything. Keep trying at it no matter how hard it is to begin with. I promise you it will become a lot easier as you work at it. Your teachers are here for a very special reason, for you. I know for a fact, you have an amazing group of teachers here at Kelvin Road School who are here for your benefit. They want to see you get the most of the opportunities in life you have and want to see you achieve as well. The teachers are always willing to help you with your reading if you are someone who finds it harder than the others. I suggest that you go up to your teacher one time and say you are having trouble with this and I am positive they will do as much as it will take to help you overcome your obstacle.
Around my room I have many sports quote that I look at every day, which helps me to motivate myself and encourage me to be the best I can be to SHINE. My most favorite one which has a special place in my room reads….. “Keep practicing and you will eventually achieve.” And now from now on that’s what I want you to think about. When something is hard, don’t push it away, think oh that girl Talia said we have to keep tracking at it. If you do that you will achieve it in no time.
As you know this is my last year in high school then next year I am going onto university which will be my last stage of education. In the future I plan to study sports science or physiotherapy to become a physiotherapist. I have worked very hard to get to where I am now. There were many things and people that helped me along the way and get to where I am but I believe one of the most important things that had a major influence on my position here today was reading. We read when we don’t even realize we are doing it and that is the beauty of it. Reading can take you anywhere and help you achieve anything you want in life and it is a very important skill that you should start doing from an early age just like I did.
I not only enjoyed reading books but I also enjoyed poems. I can still remember my favorite poem from when I was aged six. It was so called “Now I am six” and it goes something like this.
When I was one I had just begunWhen I was two I was nearly newWhen I was three I was weeWhen I was four I was not much moreWhen I was five I was just aliveBut I now I am six I am as clever as clever so I think I will stay six for ever and ever.
That was my favorite poem and I still remember it 11 years later.
So overall you too can achieve your goals if you read and remember… ‘It’s cool to read its cool to achieve!!!’

Thank you :)

Eating healthy food

Do you know that junk food will make you get fat? By eating junk food, you can get sick. If you eat healthy food you can get stronger. People around New Zealand love eating healthy food but many eat fast food. Some people like going to McDonalds and KFC to buy some fast food instead of cooking healthy food at home. KFC makes you sick because you can get food poisoning. My family eats healthy food because we cook meat and vegetables. My dad likes eating healthy food. These days little children are getting fat because they eat too many treat foods like chips, chocolate, burgers, fish and chips. In school we get fruit every day which is good for us. We get fruit like bananas, kiwi fruit, apples, pineapples and plums. We also get vegetables like carrots which is good for us. If you eat a lot of junk food, stop or else you will become obese and sick. I love eating good food which keeps me healthy.

Character is Power

Do you know what character is? Character is a very powerful thing. Character is power. A person who has character has virtues.
If you want to have character you have to do the right thing.
If you don’t have character you would not like or bother doing
the right thing. Those people who murder do not have powerful character. If you have character you are a good role model. If you are a good role model you have virtues like respect and good citizenship. I believe that good things will happen to good people. If you hurt someone it will come back to you just like a boomerang. Having good character is the same as integrity. Character is really important to have. If you have character you will have love and kindness to show to others and they would show love and kindness back to you. If you want to be happy you have to build your character. You have to be brave and stand up tall and not be scared. You need to be a leader for the people. Some children who have character will remember their values for their entire life. If you don’t have character you will not treat people with respect and you will not have many friends. If you don’t have friends you will be a sad and lonely person. Be good and good things will happen to you. It is amazing how my teacher changed my behavior by teaching us the values like self-discipline, responsibility and integrity. By learning the values I am able to change my character. Now I am able to show integrity when I do what I think is right. I show self-discipline when I accept that things do not always go my way. I show responsibility when I take care of things that belong to me. I believe that character is power – that is why I have changed my behaviour. It’s simple – always do the right thing and you will have good character.
It feels good to do the right thing.

Smoking Kills

If you smoke quit, and if you don’t smoke don’t start because smoking is a very bad thing. Smoking causes lung-cancer, crib-death and neck-cancer. Crib-death happens when you are pregnant and you smoke. Smoking can kill you. If anyone in your family smokes tell them to stop because you wouldn’t like them to die. My mum smokes and I tell her to stop smoking because it causes her to die. Tell your mum and dad never to smoke again. Whenever your parents smoke remind them that smoking causes lung cancer. It causes other bad illnesses too. Some smokers try to quit so they can have a happy life. Tobacco can be poisonous. People like smoking but it is very bad. Have you seen the cigarette boxes? Well that could happen to you if you smoke. Smoking is yucky. When people smoke I walk away because I don’t like smoke. When they blow the smoke out I can breathe it in and I don’t like that. When I grow up I am never going to smoke because I don’t want to die. Now you know what will happen when you smoke. People you should never ever smoke because you don’t want to die. If you smoke quit and if you don’t smoke, please don’t start .

Do you have someone who looks after you? I do. My mum is trying to be the best mother she can be for my sisters, brother and I. My mum has red hair, a tan face and brown eyes. She is the best mum in the world because she was the manager of my rugby team. But now she is secretary of our team. On Saturdays my mum takes me to my rugby game. My mum laughs at me when she scores a goal in the goal post. My mother takes me to the chipmunks or to the zoo, even McDonalds. Every second Tuesday we go into town at night because it is my mum’s payday. Sometimes we go to the video shop and hire DVDs. My mum is the best in the world because she bought me a play station 2. When my mum goes out shopping she buys my sisters, my brother and I lots of things. Once my mum bought me a skateboard. My sisters and brother got a scooter. My mum also buys me some clothes or games. She buys me some toys but sometimes I don’t like it because it is plastic. When it is my birthday we go to the movies and mum gives me $50 to play arcade games.
My mother is the best mother she can be for us. I know my mum is the best in the world.

Why I want to be a Farmer

Do you want to be a farmer? I want to be a farmer because I like to shear sheep and wake up early to feed the roosters. Farming is a big job. I could walk up steep hills with my dogs. Farming is cool because you can gather up the cows and feed the pigs everyday. I would watch the animals eat their food everyday. If I was a farmer I would always feed the animals myself. When I become a farmer I would like to live near a famous person. I would love to walk around the farm and sing songs or I will take my dogs with me and they can run around. I want to be a farmer because I could look after animals and collect the eggs. Farmers have to know everything about farming. Some farmers take sticks so the dogs do not fight. Many farmers have to gather the animals twice a day. When I’m a farmer I will have to take good care of every animal. On farms there is lots of mud so it is gooey and your shoe gets stuck when you step in the mud. Some farmers get up at five in the morning to go on the farm. My favourite animals are cows, roosters, chickens, dogs, pigs and horses. If a farmer does not feed the animals, the animals would die and the farmer won’t be happy. Animals on the farm have babies in spring. This makes the farmers happy. Some farmers have nice houses with a lot of animals.
It is my dream to be a farmer when I grow up.

My favourite places in the world

Do you have a favourite place? My favourite places are the pools, Thames, school but mostly Up North. Going to the pools is exciting because I can go everyday after school and Saturdays. But what I really like is to go Up North all of the time – the only problem is the weekend is too short. We usually go Up North at Christmas time and stay there until the holiday is over. When we go up north it is awesome. We have to get up really early every morning to go to the beach. Then we would go again at twelve o’clock in the afternoon. Swimming in the beach is wonderful. I like it when we go every day because afterwards we would go to the shop and buy a drink and fish and chips. My dad gives us drinks when we get puffed out from all that swimming. Imagine going to the beach every single day – it is fantastic. We stay at our three story house when we are up there. I like it when we have beef for dinner. I also like it because we don’t have to do the dishes. I love to sleep on the floor and I don’t mind a sore back when I wake up the next morning.
When we play outside it is fun to go down the big hill. You need to have a piece of cardboard to slide on down the hill.
It is a wonderful feeling that makes me so happy. My cousins enjoy it too especially when we go down the hill really fast.
Sometimes we hop into a box and roll down the hill. If you’re going Up North you must book a three story house and don’t go on the weekend because it is too short. The best time for an amazing holiday in my favourite place is during the December holidays. You will have heaps of time to play, relax and you will never be bored Up North.

Dangers of Alcohol

Have you ever had alcohol? I have not but my family and other people do. Did you know that alcohol makes you dizzy? You could fall over onto the ground and you could make your nose bleed. I hate it. Some people have a fridge full of alcohol. I feel like throwing it out. Alcohol makes you sick and drunk. Drinking is dangerous because you could die in a crash if you’re driving. No one might be around and the car might catch on fire. It is dangerous for kids because they have to watch adults drinking. I do not want to drink alcohol because it makes people drunk and then they do stupid things. Some drunken people may hurt themselves or others. They might get angry and have a bad temper. The next day they cannot remember what they did. Mums and dads may swear, fight or hit each other when they are drunk and this makes the children sad and scared. And when the children grow up they may also drink and do the same things their parents did. Drinking destroys people’s lives. Drinking kills. If you drink, stop and if you don’t, never start.

Earthquakes

Have you ever felt an earth quake? Well I haven’t. Have you felt the very strong shake it’s got? When earthquakes happen you need to get under cover. Some earth quakes can kill you. Earth quakes can destroy the world. When earth quakes happen you need to get under cover and that might be under the table so you don’t get hurt. Earth quakes can happen anywhere around the world. If an earthquake happens you need to make sure you stay safe. Earthquakes can be really strong sometimes. Some earthquakes can last for a very short time. Earthquakes are very dangerous. Some earthquakes can make power lines fall down. Earthquakes can make people very scared. Some earthquakes make a lot of things fall down because it is shaking very hard. They can happen any time without any warnings. Earthquakes can make holes in the road and can also make roads split apart. Earthquakes feel like the world is going to end. They can happen anywhere around the world. A lot of people don’t know how earthquakes happen. When an earthquake comes you get a very bad shock. People who are scared of earthquakes can sometimes have a heart attack. They could whack their head by accident and might black out. When there is an earthquake you should not go out side. Sometimes people don’t realise that an earthquake is happening. When an earth quake happens people should not treat it like a joke. Earthquakes feel like a person is out of control but bigger. Some people will not live in countries that experience earthquakes. Earthquakes can make people feel really sad about their country. Some earthquakes can make people feel like they don’t want be alive. Some earthquakes are small and some are big and fierce.
Over the years many earthquakes have caused a lot of damage and even death.
Earthquakes have hurt a lot of people and destroyed their lives.

Class Act Opera - The Magic Flute

On Tuesday 5th August Class Act Opera came to Kelvin Road School to perform an opera called The Magic Flute. The whole school went to the hall for the opera and the children were so excited because it was their first opera. It was a musical show of acting and singing. We laughed a lot and everybody enjoyed the show.
Thank You Class Act Opera.

Magic and mystery join with quirky humour in Mozart's The Magic Flute. The romantic fairytale is popular with long-time opera-goers for its tunefulness and wit, and is a great 'first opera' for beginners.

The handsome Prince Tamino has fallen in love with an image of the beautiful Pamina. During his journey to find her, he encounters some mysterious characters: the Queen of the Night, some watchful guides, a lonely birdcatcher and the forbidding ruler Sarastro. Tamino's magic flute may help him, but his own strength will be the key.
