Speech: My Future Career by Shar

Do you know what you want to be when you grow up? It is important to choose a career where you can earn lots of money so you can take care of your family, help the poor and live a happy life. I have two choices. I want to be a lawyer or an accountant because they are people who get paid a lot of money and earn a lot of respect.

If you want to be a lawyer, you need to be a good speaker. That is something I am very good at. I love talking and I am a confident speaker like my dad. I am also good at judging right from wrong. I think I would be fair lawyer and I would help the innocent people who have been accused of crimes they did not commit.

Being a lawyer is a great career because you can help people who are innocent from being thrown into prison. You can earn a lot more money than people who clean toilets and work in labour jobs. Being a lawyer is interesting because you get to be like a detective on CSI who investigates crimes.

I have been inspired to be a lawyer by my Mum and Dad, who are now at University studying to be lawyers. This is my Dad’s final year of study and Mum will finish next year. I watch them working so hard to achieve their dreams. They have taught me to follow my dreams and that it is never too late to learn new things. In the future I can see myself walking in my parents’ footsteps.

An accountant is a person who loves maths, numbers and working with money, like I do. I think being an accountant would be really fun because you get to do ratios, fractions, maths problems etc. An accountant has a good job because you get paid heaps more than labourers. Being an accountant is a fun job because you don’t have to scrub toilets and wash sinks all day.

Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with being a toilet cleaner or a street sweeper. The important thing is to be the best at what you do. If you become a toilet cleaner, then be the best toilet cleaner in the world. Whatever I end up doing I know that I will take pride in my job and be the best that I can be. My mum and dad have taught me to trust in my heart and I will get there.

Great speech! My brother and sister went to college. I did not. My brother became a banker and my sister became a human resources specialist. I started out working in a factory, and loved my work. As I got older I took a few classes at a trade school for computers and machining. I did not know what I wanted to do in the future. From what I learned at work and in the few classed I took, I ended up getting a job as a dimensional inspector at an aerospace company. I could not be happier! It takes many different types of people to make a company and world work.
